As explained in my Websites portfolio entry, I built this website with the static Site generator GoHugo. Static Sites can be served much quicker than SSR sites. Files are instantly uploaded to the client, easily cached on the Client’ Device and CDNs. As I’ve explained in my self-hosting blog item, I host all my websites myself. So, I took the time to repeat some Web Security with Security Headers in Nginx, and tested one of my friend’s Websites Jana Schatto on Speed and Security using the pagespeed.web.dev analysis and the MDN Security Observatory.

Ill start with the results. Won’t keep you waiting!

As you can tell. The PC speed is extremely good. Hurray! 👋 I can’t tell you how excited I am with a score of 98, on a self-hosted solution. Never need a Hosting Company again I guess?

The mobile score looks fine too, but then there is the much lower endscore. Mostly coming from the banner, slowing things down almost 6 seconds? I couldn’t reproduce this in the development tools myself. And the size of the file is also reasonably small:
